Homesteader Christmas Ideas For The Kitchen
It is my favorite time of year! Christmas time! I love almost everything about it; I love celebrating the birth of Christ, decorating the tree, Christmas lights everywhere, festive shopping, and cookies! I also love to read Christmas Gift Guides. I know that it may make me a nerd, but I really find it enjoyable to see what someone suggests as good gifts. I don’t always agree with them and as a homesteader, I have seen some lists and am pleased to find out I have everything on that list. But I still find enjoyment in them.
Every person is in a different place in life, and their circumstances are unique to them at that moment. One person may be a veteran homesteader with more stuff than they can use, and someone else may just be starting to dabble in a few things. Either way, I hope you enjoy this Christmas List. Maybe you will find that one gift for that special someone on your list or even something for yourself.

Gift Ideas For The Kitchen
KitchenAid Mixer & Attachments
KitchenAid Mixer– This mixer is an investment but it is worth it! This heavy-duty mixer has several different attachments that you can add to it and will last you a lifetime. It’s that well made. I highly recommend adding the flex edge beater and the pouring shield. I have the KitchenAid 5-qt Artisian in black and use it almost daily. I have made large batches of bread dough (4 loaf recipe) in this and had this thing rocking. I wouldn’t recommend that but it did the job.
You can also buy attachments for this tool. These include a meat grinder, spiralizer, pasta maker, cheese grater, grain mill, and juicer.
Food Processors
Tomato Processor. We have this exact model and it is great! We use it a bunch in the fall for making tomato sauce and it also works for applesauce. This is worth the money! You do not have to cut out the apple core, peels, or anything. It spits all the waste product out the end and then that is given to my chickens. It’s also very easy to clean.
A Food Processor. I found one of these at a garage sale for $3. My husband thought it was a stupid purchase but this tool has proved itself worthy of many uses. I used to shred cheese and small batches of vegetables. But my all time favorite use for it is shaving Fels Naptha soap for homemade laundry detergent. This little machine shaves the bar of soap in seconds. This is one of my favorite kitchen tools!
Cast Iron
Lodge Cast Iron is our favorite. If you come into our kitchen, you will see all sizes of cast iron pans hanging from a beam. We proudly display our cast iron pans and these also get used on a daily basis. Cast iron is an amazing thing that will last forever, heats food evenly, and will have no worries of teflon or other harmful chemicals in your food.
DO NOT USE SOAP on cast iron. That’s the one important rule. You will just wash and scrub them with water. Once you get used to that one rule and learn how to continue to “season” your pans by adding oil and cooking with them, you will LOVE THEM! You can even experiment with campfire cooking on them.
Our favorite sized pans are the 12-inch skillet and the 15-inch skillets.
If the thought of not cleaning your pans with soap scares you, buy an enameled coated Dutch Oven instead.
I have this exact Enameled Lodge Dutch Oven as shown above and use it weekly. It’s great!
Vacuum Sealer
Vacuum Sealer. Vacuum Sealing allows you to keep your produce and meats fresher. Once they are sealed you can throw them in the freezer to enjoy them throughout the year. Really easy to use and keeps your food fresh!
Canning Equipment
Preserving Books
This book is one of our FAVORITES!
You can NEVER have enough jars!
Rosetter Cookie Maker
Rosette Set. These are the prettiest cookies to have and share for the holidays! This set will make 2 different styles of deep fried cookies and then you sprinkle them with powdered sugar. Yum! The are very festive and a Nordic tradition. My Grandmother used to make these so I have very fond memories of them! We have made making rosettes a tradition in our home at Christmas time.
Cute Kitchen Items
Cake Stand/Punch Bowl. If you follow me on Instagram, you will see my cake stand in several of my pictures. This last year it has found a permanent spot my our counter where it showcases the latest goodies I have made for my family. No more hiding my baked goods in the pantry where they get forgotten and wasted. I do also use this as a occasional punch bowl but showing homemade treats has been a wonderful addition to our kitchen.
Kitchen Towels: Everyone uses towels. These ones are on my Christmas list this year. I love the classic look to them.
Apron
Novelty Items. For the person who has everything. Sometimes you just need to add some fun and share the homesteading life. These are a few items that brought a smile to my face.
Yeti Travel Mug. When you are a homesteader, you find yourself outside a lot. This travel mug keeps your drink warm or cold for hours! They are worth the hefty price tag.
Turkey Fryer. This one may not be considered a “in-home” item but we use ours all the time. In fact, we have 3 turkey fryers. We boil large batches of chicken and duck meat broth, boil dozens of ears of sweet corn in them at once, and also have used them for maple sap in the spring. It’s always handy to have a large pot around too. This one is a great deal at the moment on (11/28/2018 it was $89.41).
