Our Big Announcement
We are excited to share our big announcement. We are expecting Baby #5 in April! If you follow us on Instagram or Facebook, you may already know our big news. But, we did not forget our blog followers and are rejoicing for our newest edition!
Every child is a blessing! We chose the word “blessing” intentionally. Although to some, 4 kids may seem crazy, and 5 kids… insane. We know that each child brings special gifts to a family and cannot wait to see what this little blessing will bring. As an only child myself, I am in awe that God has given me so much family in my adult life.
How we announced it to the kids
It was hard to keep this secret from the kids. With my daily naps and queasiness, I thought the older two might guess, but they didn’t. We couldn’t help but give them a few hints. “What if we had another baby? Would you want a baby boy or a baby girl? I am going to need you to help out more.” But, they did not guess.
Daniel came up with a creative way to share our big announcement. In our family, we love games! So, it’s no surprise when he said, “Hey. Let’s play a game.” He brought out the large dry erase board and set up a game of Hangman. He made the first few games a warm-up and the answer was always baby related.
Game 3 was when we were going to spill the beans. The phrase was “Mom’s having a baby!” We couldn’t help but laugh when the younger kids are choosing letters like X. Eventually, the phrase was missing one letter, the letter v, and our oldest son finally figured it out and guessed the missing letter. He shouts, “Mom’s having a baby? Ahh… Yes!”
It took our oldest daughter a little longer to register. She said, “Mom’s having a baby? Why? Is it in your tummy?” She was clearly offended that we did not consult her before deciding this. I tell her, “Yes Hunny, yes it is.” She is still surprised and thinks for a little bit, “Can we do the cake?” meaning a gender reveal cake as we did with our youngest. The news finally hit everyone else and they jumped and shouted with excitement.
It was a really fun way to share the news with our children!
Why Baby #5 is extra exciting
We will not be finding out the sex of the baby. There are not enough real surprises in life and this is one we want to cherish. It’ll also keep us from obtaining too much baby stuff. Babies do not need a lot in the beginning and I would prefer to have only the essentials.
I will also have lots of helpers with this new baby. My eldest children are 11 and 9 and will be able to assist with a lot of baby responsibilities. They are willing to help and can watch the baby when I need to catch up on dishes or take a quick nap.
Another reason I am really excited about baby number 5 is that we got rid of most of our old baby stuff. We are basically starting from scratch again. And let me tell you that the baby stuff has gotten really cool in the last 12 years. I am going to try and buy most of my baby stuff used. That is one thing I wish I would have done in the beginning. You can find most baby items used and in amazing condition for a fraction of the cost. I also know that mothers love seeing their old baby stuff go to a new home. Why? Because I was also so excited to see my stuff go to a good home.
Baby Announcement Photo Shoot
The baby announcement photos were taken by me by using my camera, a tripod, and the self-timer setting. The text was added in Photoshop elements 11. I knew that I wanted to do a nice and a fun one. The kids were climbing one of our trees at the moment and reminded me of monkeys. I decided to go with it.
I find it funny that in the background of our pictures you will see our dog or a chicken roaming in the back. That’s life.
We are thrilled to share our baby number 5 announcement and can’t wait to meet this new baby! We are definitely blessed to receive another wonderful child and are praying for a healthy pregnancy, delivery, and baby. Thank you for following along with us and supporting our family.
